New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Odisha is showcasing its integrated water management initiatives, climate-resilient agriculture practices and irrigation infrastructure at the 9th India International Water Week (IIWW)-2026, being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from September 22 to 26.
Participating as a Partner State, Odisha is presenting its interventions at the event, which has ‘Climate Resilient Water Management’ as its theme. The Odisha Pavilion was inaugurated by Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil.
Principal Secretary, Department of Water Resources, Shubha Sarma, co-chaired a special session on “Joint Indo-Danish Solutions for Sustainable Water Management” with Denmark’s Ambassador to India Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen.
Sarma highlighted scope for Odisha-Denmark cooperation in areas including coastal erosion management, strengthening coastal resilience and adoption of Danish expertise and technologies for sustainable water management.
The State showcase features initiatives aimed at improving irrigation efficiency, water security and climate resilience. These include soil moisture sensors, integrated rice-fish farming, automatic wetting and drying systems and climate-resilient pulse and rice seed varieties.
A dedicated model of the Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture (OIIPCRA) highlights interventions covering 538 minor irrigation tanks across 15 districts. The project integrates restoration of water bodies with improved irrigation, climate-resilient agriculture, fisheries development and livelihood support.
The Kanupur Irrigation Project model showcases water storage, intra-subbasin water transfer and modern water conveyance systems, while highlighting the State’s efforts to optimise available water resources and strengthen long-term water security.
A digital Success Stories platform at the pavilion presents achievements from different parts of Odisha, focusing on the socio-economic impact of water-related interventions on farmers, communities and other beneficiaries.
The pavilion also has a Community Engagement Corner featuring quizzes, awareness activities and a Water Conservation Pledge Wall to encourage public participation in water conservation.
Through IIWW-2026, Odisha is highlighting its experience in integrated water management, climate-resilient agriculture, efficient irrigation, livelihood development and community participation in water governance before a national and international audience.
