Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur over the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, Koraput and Malkangiri today, according to the prediction of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the latest forecast, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts are likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching up to 50 to 60 kmph is also very likely at one or two places over these districts.
The IMD has also issued an orange warning advisory for six more districts. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places over Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam districts. These districts are also likely to witness thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind up to 50 to 60 kmph.
Besides, a Yellow Warning has been issued for sixteen districts predicting heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Bargada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada. Thunderstorm with lightning and wind speed of 40 to 50 kmph is likely in these districts.
In view of the deep depression and associated adverse weather, IMD has advised people in the Red Warning districts to avoid movement in low-lying and vulnerable areas and has asked fishermen not to venture into the sea along the South Odisha and North Andhra coasts.
The system, which was centred around 150 km south of Gopalpur last night, is moving west-northwestwards at 7 kmph and is very likely to cross the North Andhra Pradesh – South Odisha coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur, close to Kalingapatnam, by tonight as a Deep Depression.
