Bhubaneswar: As many as 22.27 lakh farmers have registered to sell their paddy during the ongoing Kharif Season 2026–27 in Odisha, marking a 13% increase in registrations compared to the previous year, Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta informed the state Assembly on Wednesday.
In a written reply to a question by senior Congress leader and Jayapur MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Samanta said a total of 22,27,713 farmers have registered for paddy sale through 2,962 cooperative societies, 35 Women’s Self-Help Groups (WSHGs) and four Pani Panchayats across the state.
The minister said the number of farmers registering for paddy sale has increased by 2,59,901 compared to the previous year. This represents a 13% rise in farmer registrations for the current Kharif season.
The government has also not received any information so far about farmers who applied for registration but were left out of the registration process during the current Kharif season, the minister said.
However, some farmers in flood-affected districts did not register this year. Compared to the previous year, 301 farmers in Baleshwar district and 1,480 farmers in Bhadrak district have not registered for paddy sale due to recurrent floods.
