Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday hailed ONGC’s offshore gas discovery in the Mahanadi Basin as a significant step towards unlocking Odisha’s energy potential and strengthening India’s journey towards Atmanirbharta.
In a post on X, CM Majhi said:”For centuries, the Mahanadi has been the lifeline of Odisha. Today, its depths are opening a new chapter in India’s energy journey. ONGC’s offshore gas discovery in the Mahanadi Basin marks a significant step towards unlocking Odisha’s energy potential and strengthening India’s journey towards Atmanirbharta. From the river that sustains Odisha to the depths that can power Bharat, the Mahanadi is helping shape a stronger, more energy-secure India.”
Notably, the discovery was made by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on September 18 at the MN-DW18-1-H-D well (MDW-28), located around 43 km off Konark coast, as part of the company’s Samudra Manthan deepwater exploration campaign launched on July 25 by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
