Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police have intensified their statewide ‘Daman’ campaign against criminals and anti-social elements ahead of the upcoming festivals, executing 109 non-bailable warrants and registering 148 excise-related cases since September 21.
The campaign, being conducted under the direction of Director General of Police Vinayatosh Mishra in coordination with district police, commissionerate police, railway police and other units, will continue till September 30, the State Police Headquarters said in a press note on Wednesday.
As part of the drive, police initiated action against 40 persons under Section 129 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
In the excise crackdown, six persons were arrested and 895 litres of country liquor, 193 litres of foreign liquor, 98 litres of Aska-40 and 209 litres of country mahuli were seized.
The anti-narcotics operation led to the registration of 15 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrest of 18 persons. Police seized around 1,918 kg of ganja, 63.628 grams of brown sugar and 60 bottles of cough syrup, besides vehicles, mobile phones and cash allegedly linked to drug trafficking.
Police also conducted raids against gambling and illegal collection of chanda. Ten persons were arrested in two gambling cases, while three persons were arrested in three cases relating to illegal collection of chanda. Cash and mobile phones were seized in these cases.
In the crackdown on illegal arms, police seized one gun along with ammunition.
The police also carried out 151 blocking and border-sealing operations in vulnerable border areas and initiated legal action against organised criminal activities.
The State Police Headquarters said the campaign would be further intensified in the coming days to maintain peace, law and order and ensure a secure environment for people during the festival season.
