Bhubaneswar: Four youths were killed and another sustained critical injuries after being hit by a train near Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
According to officials, the Rajya Rani Express, which was travelling from Berhampur to Gunupur, ran over the youths.The deceased have been identified as Visaradharao, Dileep, Sarath and Shiva, all residents of Damara village in Tekkali mandal.
Another youth, identified as Solomon Raju, was critically injured and rushed to Tekkali District Hospital for treatment.
Officials launched rescue operations and initiated an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the accident.
Andhra Pradesh Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu took stock of the incident and spoke to officials about the circumstances surrounding the deaths. He directed revenue and police officials to reach the spot and expedite rescue and relief measures.
The Minister also instructed officials to ensure that the families of the victims were informed and provided assistance without delay.
