Kandhamal: Continuous heavy rain has triggered a landslide in Kalinga Ghat on Ganjam-Kandhamal border, washing away a portion of an under-construction road.
According to reports, one side of the road has been completely washed away due to heavy water flow. The road has caved in at Andharikote in the ghat. The National Highway-157 passing through Kalinga Ghat is a crucial link between South Odisha and West Odisha and is part of the Ranchi-Vijayawada corridor.
It is pertinent to mention that a major landslide had occurred at the same ghat last year. In view of the incessant rain, the Kandhamal district administration has completely closed the ghat for traffic. Today, heavy rainwater flowing from Mundia washed away the road along with the under-construction guard wall.
Kandhamal Collector said that NH authorities will inspect the road and repair work will begin after the rain subsides completely.
The administration, meanwhile, has requested people not to travel through Kalinga Ghat and not to enter the ghat to take selfies or photos.
