Bhubaneswar: A 21-year-old youth allegedly jumped into the Kuakhai River from Tankapani Bridge here on Thursday evening and went missing, prompting a search operation by Fire Services personnel.
The missing youth has been identified as Bighnesh Tripathy, the only son of Biswajit Tripathy of the Badagada Brit Colony area.
According to the information available, Bighnesh’s scooter and slippers were found abandoned on the bridge, raising concerns that he may have jumped into the river.
His father and other family members reached the spot after learning about the incident. Fire Services personnel launched a search operation in the river using life jackets and torches.
The search for Bighnesh was continuing, while the circumstances leading to the incident were yet to be ascertained.
Tankapani bridge has witnessed similar incidents in the past, including reported cases involving an auto-rickshaw driver and a delivery worker who allegedly jumped into the river.
