Bhubaneswar: In view of incessant heavy to very heavy rainfall triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, educational institutions will remain closed today in eight districts of Odisha.
District administrations of Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Kendrapada, Gajapati, Nabarangapur and Kalahandi have ordered the closure of all government and private schools as well as Anganwadi centres.
The decision prioritises the safety and security of students as intense rain continues to lash southern and western parts of the state.
It is pertinent to mention that holidays had earlier been declared till September 24. However, with no significant improvement in the weather and reports of waterlogging, overflowing drains and disrupted road connectivity in several low-lying areas, the closures have been extended by another day.
District administration in Gajapati, Nabarangapur and Kalahandi had announced the extension on Thursday, aligning with similar orders issued for the other affected districts.
