Baripada: A woman was killed after being trapped under the debris of a collapsed mud wall due to continuous heavy rain at Punasia village under Jalda panchayat in Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased has been identified as Chunu Naik of the same village.
According to reports, continuous rain over the past few days had soaked and weakened the mud walls of Chunu’s house. While she was inside, one of the walls suddenly collapsed on her, burying her under the debris. Hearing the loud noise, family members and neighbours rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts. However, by the time they pulled her out, she had already succumbed to her injuries at the site.
The news of the incident has cast a deep shadow of grief over the entire village and nearby areas.
Upon receiving information, Jharpokharia police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination while launching an investigation into the matter.
Local residents have strongly demanded that the administration provide immediate government financial assistance to the bereaved and helpless family.
