Bhubaneswar: A court in Jharsuguda district has convicted a man in a burglary and theft case within 17 days of registration of the FIR, police said on Thursday.
The Court of Civil Judge (Jr Division)-cum-JMFC, Lakhanpur, convicted Sanatan Kishan (26), of Deheridhipa under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with Rengali PS Case No. 239, registered on September 9.
The case related to a night burglary at a Common Service Centre near Katarbaga School on NH-49, from where four second-hand mobile phones and two earbuds were stolen.
Police said Kishan was apprehended during the investigation conducted by SI Samarendra Nayak of Rengali police station. Based on his disclosure, two stolen Redmi mobile phones, an earbud and an iron rod were recovered from his residence. The seizure and recovery proceedings were also videographed.
The police submitted the charge-sheet on September 19, while charges were framed and evidence commenced on September 21. The court delivered its judgment on September 25.
The court sentenced Kishan to six months’ simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 305(a) BNS and three months’ simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 under Section 331(4) BNS. Both sentences will run concurrently.
Jharsuguda SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra, monitored the investigation and trial, with emphasis on speedy investigation and prosecution coordination, police said.
