Bhubaneswar: At least 24 minor girls became pregnant while residing in girls’ hostels of schools under the School and Mass Education Department in Odisha during the last two years, state minister Nityananda Gond informed the assembly on Friday.
In a written reply to a question by senior Congress leader and Jayapur MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Gond said nine such cases were reported during 2024-25 and 15 during 2025-26.
Of the nine cases reported in 2024-25, one each was reported from Baleshwar, Debagada, Kendujhar, Koraput, Malkangiri and Mayurbhanj, while three cases were reported from Rayagada.
During 2025-26, five cases were reported from Kandhamala, four from Koraput and one each from Debagada, Kendujhar, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada and Sundaragada, the minister said.
Gond also informed the House that action had been taken against the accused persons in the cases. Some of the accused were arrested, while FIRs were registered in other cases, he said.
