Baripada: A woman was killed after a mud wall of her house collapsed amid continuous rainfall in Punasia village under Jharpokharia police station in Mayurbhanj district, police said.
The deceased was identified as Chunu Naik, a resident of Punasia.
According to local sources, the prolonged rain had soaked and weakened the mud walls of her house.
The incident occurred late at night when Chunu was inside the house. A wall suddenly collapsed, trapping her underneath. She died at the spot, sources said.
On being informed, Jharpokharia police reached the village, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident is underway.
Villagers have urged the district administration to provide immediate financial assistance to the bereaved family.
