Paradip: Paradip Port in Odisha has been officially designated as a “Mega Port” by the Centre, becoming the only port on India’s East Coast to receive the recognition under the Indian Ports Act, 2025.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways issued a notification on Friday designating Paradip, along with Deendayal Port (Kandla), Jawaharlal Nehru Port (Nhava Sheva) and Mundra Port, as “Mega Ports” after evaluating them against prescribed performance benchmarks.
The designation has further strengthened Paradip Port’s position as a key maritime gateway on the eastern seaboard and is expected to support expansion of maritime infrastructure, trade and connectivity.
The recognition has been welcomed by Paradip Port officials, port-user agencies and local residents, with celebrations reported in the port town following the Centre’s announcement.
