Bhubaneswar: Taking selfies near swollen rivers proved fatal in two separate incidents in Odisha.
In the first incident, a woman fell into the river while taking a selfie near the Indravati river bridge in Nabarangapur.
The missing woman has been identified as Sirisa Naik of Medari Sahi in Nabarangapur town.
According to information, she had gone with her family to see the floodwater near the Indravati river yesterday when the mishap occurred. She slipped from the bridge while taking a selfie and fell into the river. A missing complaint has been filed in this regard.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. However, due to heavy water flow in the river and darkness, rescue could not be carried out last night. The rescue operation resumed this morning, but she is yet to be traced.
In a similar incident yesterday, a youth fell off the Sidhamula bridge at Kantilo while trying to take a selfie. The missing youth has been identified as Saroj Nayak of Dhipasahi area in Dasapalla. He is also yet to be traced.
