Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal on Saturday led a cleanliness drive at Cuttack Railway Station as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign, urging passengers and the public to contribute to maintaining clean railway premises.
Funkwal led the drive at the east-side front gate of the station and interacted with passengers, distributing reusable jute bags as an environment-friendly alternative to plastic and polythene. He appealed to passengers to avoid single-use plastic and adopt sustainable alternatives.
He also urged passengers to use designated dustbins and dispose of waste properly instead of littering railway premises, stressing that cleanliness at railway stations was a shared responsibility.
The ECoR is observing Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 from September 17 to October 2 under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag: Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”, with a focus on public participation, cleanliness and sustainable waste management.
During his visit, the General Manager inspected cleanliness and hygiene arrangements at the station, including platforms, waiting halls, toilets, foot overbridges, circulating areas, drinking water points and food stalls. He also reviewed waste management, drainage and housekeeping arrangements and directed officials to ensure regular cleaning and proper disposal of waste.
Funkwal further inspected ongoing station redevelopment works and reviewed the progress of projects aimed at improving passenger facilities. He stressed adherence to safety standards and timely completion of the works.
Senior officials from ECoR headquarters and Khurda Road Division accompanied the General Manager during the inspection.
