Bhubaneswar: Around four quintals of ganja, packed in 32 fish boxes and allegedly being transported to Uttar Pradesh, were seized from a courier office in Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district on Sunday, the Excise Department said.
Acting on reliable information, an Excise team raided the ‘Safexpress’ courier service warehouse in Bhawanipatna and recovered the contraband, an Excise officer said.
“We received reliable information that ganja was being stored at the ‘Safexpress’ courier service warehouse in Bhawanipatna and was being transported to Uttar Pradesh. Our teams conducted a raid and seized approximately four quintals of ganja packed in 32 fish boxes,” the officer said.
The consignment was reportedly booked with the address of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Bulandshahr, in Uttar Pradesh, she said.
However, the judge’s name was not mentioned on the parcel. The name and address of the person who had sent the consignment were also not mentioned, the officer said.
The Excise Department has launched an investigation to identify the supplier and others involved in the transportation of the contraband.
