Bhubaneswar: The fifth day of the Monsoon Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed another round of heated proceedings on Monday.
As per reports, Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the House till 11:30 am just six minutes after the commencement of the session. Members of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress raised slogans and shouted in front of the Speaker’s podium in protest over the MMDR Bill.
The sudden adjournment followed strong opposition from the BJD and Congress benches, leading to disruption in the House.
It is pertinent to mention that the opposition Congress and BJD have also been protesting against the MMDR Amendment Act in the Assembly, leading to repeated adjournments of the House since the beginning of the Monsoon session.
The MMDR Amendment Act has turned into a major headache for the state government, as the Opposition seems to be in no mood to back down.
Meanwhile, the BJD is all set to organise an agitation in the state Capital demanding the immediate repeal of the Act. On the other hand, the congress-led INDIA bloc is also scheduled to stage a Odisha Assembly gherao protest in Bhubaneswar on September 29 against the MMDR Amendment Act
