Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has collected approximately Rs 95.91 lakh as penalty from businessmen who violated food safety rules, informed the Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling informed the Odisha Legislative Assembly in a written reply.
He has informed the Odisha government has intensified efforts to curb food adulteration across the state.
Responding to a question raised by the MLA Souvik Biswal, the Minister stated that regular inspections and sample testing are being carried out to ensure food safety. In the last two years, a total of 7,392 legal samples and 32,498 surveillance samples were lifted across various districts and urban local bodies.
During this period, the concerned authorities seized a large quantity of suspected adulterated food items and imposed penalties. Approximately 427.86 quintals of adulterated food were destroyed. A total of 431 cases were filed against offenders, including 298 adjudication cases and 133 prosecution cases.
