Bhubaneswar: As many as 2,674 cases related to illegal firearms were registered in Odisha, and 3,388 persons were arrested during various special drives conducted across the state over the last 23 months, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state assembly on Monday.
In a written reply to a question by Baliguda MLA Chakramani Kanhar, Majhi said the cases were registered between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2026, during special drives conducted across the state.
During the operations, police seized 509 pistols, 37 Mausers, and 346 guns and other firearms, he said.
The Chief Minister said ‘Operation Daman’ is currently underway in the state to curb the illegal and illicit arms trade and take action against habitual offenders.
He also informed the assembly that during a special drive for the execution of Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs), 2,973 warrants were executed, while 2,820 NBWs were disposed of for other reasons between May 15 and May 31, 2026.
During another special drive aimed at disposing of pending cases, 7,744 cases were disposed of between September 6 and September 15, 2026, he said.
The Chief Minister further said special drives are being regularly conducted in all police districts and under the Commissionerate Police, as per the directions of the state government, to strengthen the law-and-order situation and apprehend absconding accused persons.
He said several special operations, including Operation ‘Dharpagarh’, Operation ‘Garuda’, Operation ‘Prahar’, and Operation ‘Daman’, have been undertaken in recent times.
These operations are aimed at executing Non-Bailable Warrants, tracing and apprehending absconding accused persons, curbing the illegal and illicit arms trade, taking action against habitual offenders, and reducing the pendency of cases, the Chief Minister said.
