Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is in the process of filling 5,989 vacant Nursing Officer posts in the state, while the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has recommended the names of 822 doctors for appointment, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling informed the state assembly on Monday.
In a written reply to a question by Bhatli MLA Irasis Acharya, Mahaling said the government had requested the OPSC to fill 5,248 posts of doctors through Government Letter No. 4579 dated February 12, 2025.
The Commission has so far recommended 822 doctors for appointment and forwarded their names to the concerned department, the minister said.
The doctors will be posted in different districts based on requirements, he added.
On the recruitment of Nursing Officers, the minister said there are 21,394 sanctioned posts in the state, of which 15,034 are currently filled.
As many as 6,360 Nursing Officer posts are vacant, and the selection process for filling 5,989 of these posts is currently underway through the Odisha Sub-Ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC), he said.
