Bhubaneswar: Only 17 of the 241 government hospitals in Odisha that require Fire Safety Certificates have valid certificates, accounting for 7.05 per cent of the total, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said in the state assembly on Monday.
In a written reply to a question by Basta MLA Subasini Jena, Majhi said Fire Safety Certificates are required for 241 of the 747 government medical colleges and hospitals, District Headquarters Hospitals, Sub-Divisional Hospitals and Community Health Centres in the state under the Odisha Fire Safety Rules, 2017, and the amended rules.
Of the 241 government hospitals, only 17 have valid Fire Safety Certificates, he said.
Hospitals that have not obtained the certificates have been advised to apply for them as per the prescribed rules, the chief minister said.
Majhi also informed the Assembly that there are 65 government and private medical colleges and hospitals, District Headquarters Hospitals and Community Health Centres in Baleshwar district.
Fire Safety Certificates are mandatory for government and private hospitals in the district under the Odisha Fire Safety Rules, 2017, and the amended rules, he said.
Of the 65 hospitals and health facilities in Balasore district, 10 have obtained Fire Safety Certificates, according to the reply.
The government and private hospitals that have not obtained the certificates have been advised to apply for them as per the prescribed rules, Majhi said.
“Necessary steps are being taken under the Odisha Fire Safety Rules, 2017, and the amended rules to rectify the deficiencies and initiate appropriate action,” the chief minister said.
