Bhubaneswar: In a significant anti-corruption development, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of a former junior clerk-cum-bench clerk of the Revenue Officer, Sub-Collector office, Panposh, Rourkela, in a bribery case.
Kunja Bihari Jena, former junior clerk-cum-bench clerk of the Revenue Officer, Sub-Collector office, Panposh, Rourkela in Sundargarh district, who has retired from service, was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant to intimate the next date of hearing of a land dispute case and to help in the matter.
On Monday, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh convicted Jena and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year and imposed a fine. Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Kunja Bihari Jena following his conviction.
