Baripada: A court here has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for abducting and raping a minor girl, besides imposing a fine of ₹20,000 on him.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge and Fast Track Special POCSO Court, Baripada, pronounced the verdict against Ashok Raul in the case. In default of payment of the fine, the convict will undergo an additional one year of imprisonment, the court ordered.
According to available information, a complaint regarding the abduction and rape of a minor girl was lodged at Karanjia police station on October 19, 2025. Police subsequently registered a case, arrested Raul and produced him before the court.
After examining the statements of six witnesses and other evidence presented during the trial, the court convicted the accused and pronounced the sentence.
Special Public Prosecutor Prabhat Kumar Behera conducted the case on behalf of the government.
