Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has given in-principle approval for the proposed Satellite Major Port at the Bahuda estuary in Ganjam district, marking a step forward in the state’s port-led development plans.
The proposed port is planned over approximately 5,005.195 acres of saline land in the Bahuda estuary area.
In a letter, Odisha Commerce and Transport Department Principal Secretary NBS Rajput conveyed the government’s decision to the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Chairman of the Paradip Port Authority and Managing Director of Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited.
The state has also approved initiation of the process for formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) involving the Paradip Port Authority, Odisha government and Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited for development of the project.
The proposal to establish a major port at Bahuda estuary has been under consideration for several years. The latest approval is expected to facilitate institutional arrangements and other subsequent steps towards taking forward the project.
