Bhubaneswar: BJP leader and Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy has urged the Odisha government to establish a Women’s Weavers Centre, a Craft Facilitation Centre and two Boyanika showrooms in his constituency.
In a representation submitted to Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Pradeep Bal Samanta, Tripathy sought a full-fledged Boyanika showroom in Jharsuguda town and another at Jharsuguda Airport.
The proposed Women’s Weavers Centre would provide workspace, training, design support, access to raw materials and market linkages to women weavers in the district, he said.
Tripathy also sought the establishment of a Craft Facilitation Centre to provide design development, quality upgradation, product diversification, skill training and common-facility infrastructure for local artisans and weavers.
Jharsuguda is emerging as an industrial and transport hub with major industries, a large floating population and growing air connectivity, the MLA said.
The proposed facilities would create livelihood opportunities for women weavers and traditional artisans, promote Odisha’s handloom and handicraft heritage and generate additional employment, he said.
The Boyanika showrooms would provide a dedicated market for local handloom products and help improve their visibility while ensuring better market opportunities and fair prices for weavers, Tripathy said.
He also highlighted the potential of the proposed showroom at Jharsuguda Airport to showcase Odisha’s handloom products to tourists, passengers and other visitors.
Tripathy requested the department to examine the proposals favourably and take necessary steps for their early establishment.
