Bhubaneswar: Odisha experienced the impact of as many as 10 weather systems during the current monsoon season, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, these systems affected the state for nearly 42 days and resulted in 1,057.8 mm of rainfall. The systems comprised two Deep Depressions, three Depressions, two Well-Marked Low Pressure areas, and three Low Pressure areas.
IMD’s records show that these systems occurred across July, August, and September, keeping monsoon activity vigorous over the state for a cumulative period of about 42 days and contributing substantially to the seasonal rainfall total during the affected period.
In July, Odisha received rainfall from three weather systems. A depression from July 1 to 6 brought 213.9 mm of rain, followed by a well-marked low-pressure area from July 15 to 18 that yielded 103.9 mm. A deep depression between July 25 and 29 contributed 163.4 mm of rainfall.
In August, Odisha recorded rainfall from five weather systems. A low-pressure area from August 8 to 10 brought 73.8 mm of rain, followed by a depression from 12 to 15 August that yielded 56.3 mm. Another depression between August 16 and 18 contributed 60.6 mm. A subsequent low-pressure system from August 23 to 25 delivered 78.3 mm, while a well-marked low-pressure area from August 29 to 31 added 54.4 mm of rainfall.
In September, Odisha recorded rainfall from two weather systems. A low-pressure area from September10 to 12 brought 68.8 mm of rain, while a deep depression from September 22 to 26 delivered 184.4 mm of rainfall.
