Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday called upon the people of Bhubaneswar to make the city the number one cleanest city in the country.
“This city is ours and the responsibility of keeping it clean is also ours. Currently, Bhubaneswar ranks ninth in the country’s cleanliness ranking. If all of us fulfil our individual responsibilities properly, our city will become the cleanest and most beautiful in the country and secure the first position,” the Chief Minister said.
He was speaking after participating in the ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ cleanliness drive organised by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation at Khandagiri.
Urging every citizen to become conscious about the cleanliness of the city, the Chief Minister said that just as we keep our homes, courtyards, lanes and compounds clean, we need to expand our outlook a little further. The responsibility of keeping the road in front of our house and our colony clean also rests with all of us. He advised people to join hands with sanitation workers, segregate wet and dry waste at home and hand it over regularly to the cleaning vehicles, and also prevent others from littering on the roads.
Recalling that Mahatma Gandhi had given the highest importance to cleanliness even before Independence, the Chief Minister said that from 2014 onwards, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully realised this dream of Gandhiji by transforming it into a widespread people’s movement through the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign.
He further said that today’s special ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ programme under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign is an innovative and commendable effort to connect the entire society with cleanliness. Acknowledging that Bhubaneswar has become cleaner and more
