Bhubaneswar: Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra today chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of various projects and activities undertaken by the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO).
The meeting was held at the Conference Hall, 2nd Floor, Unnati Bhawan, Bhubaneswar. Managing Director, WATCO, Debabrata Mohanty made a detailed presentation on the corporation’s operational jurisdiction, ongoing water supply and sewerage projects, and status of Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) and Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). The review covered physical and financial progress of major projects, expenditure against budgetary provisions, project timelines and measures required for timely completion.
Minister Dr. Mahapatra reviewed the status of water supply infrastructure and sewerage projects, emphasizing timely implementation, effective utilization of funds and improved service delivery to citizens. Functioning and progress of WTPs and STPs were also discussed along with issues relating to project execution and operational requirements.
Financial performance of WATCO was another key area of discussion. The meeting examined budget allocations, expenditure and pace of financial utilization across projects. The Minister stressed close monitoring of project-wise expenditure and timely resolution of implementation issues to ensure projects progress as scheduled.
The meeting also deliberated on arrangements for taking over and handing over of newly constituted Notified Area Councils (NACs) under WATCO’s jurisdiction. The proposed transfer of sewerage works from WATCO to Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB) as per Government Notification was discussed, with focus on clarity of responsibilities and continuity of services during transition.
The planned Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities under SUJAL scheme, to be held from October 2 to October 16, 2026, were also reviewed. The campaign will focus on creating public awareness about water supply services, responsible water use and citizen participation.
Directing officials to closely monitor ongoing projects, Dr. Mahapatra emphasized timely execution, financial discipline, quality of works and effective service delivery. He advised better coordination among implementing agencies and prompt redressal of bottlenecks.
Senior officials of H&UD Department, WATCO, OWSSB and other concerned agencies attended the meeting. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Director (Projects), WATCO.
