Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken up the alleged assault on Tikhiri Sarpanch Chameli Ojha, with a three-member team slated to visit Kendrapara on October 5 for an on-ground inquiry.
The incident, which sparked widespread outrage, allegedly took place inside the chamber of the Mahakalapada BDO on June 11, where the woman Sarpanch Chameli Ojha was reportedly assaulted and misbehaved with.
The NHRC headquarters in Delhi has formally communicated the visit to the Kendrapada Collector and Superintendent of Police. During its stay, the team is expected to record statements of all stakeholders linked to the case.
Those likely to be questioned include Mahakalapada police personnel, the BDO and his office staff, eyewitnesses, the investigating officer and the doctor who examined the victim. The panel will also review the circumstances leading to the incident as part of its detailed probe.
