Bhubaneswar: In a heartwarming incident, a woman travelling on the Bangiriposi-Puri Express gave birth to a baby girl on Platform No. 4 of Bhubaneswar Railway Station on Saturday.
According to railway officials, the woman went into labour mid-journey. As soon as the train arrived at Bhubaneswar station, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and members of the ‘Meri Saheli’ team rushed to her aid after she complained of severe labour pain.
Showing quick presence of mind, the all-women ‘Meri Saheli’ team and RPF staff created a temporary enclosure with cloth sheets on the platform itself to ensure privacy and dignity. With their support, the woman safely delivered a healthy baby girl on the platform before medical help arrived.
It is learnt that both the mother and newborn are safe. They were later shifted for further medical care.
The timely and coordinated action of the RPF and ‘Meri Saheli’ personnel has drawn appreciation from passengers and railway authorities.
