Bhubaneswar: Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy on Saturday paid floral tribute to former legislator and freedom fighter Sarala Devi on her death anniversary and recalled her significant contributions to women’s empowerment and social development.
Padhy paid floral tribute at Sarala Devi’s statue located adjacent to the Odisha Legislative Assembly and remembered her contribution to the freedom movement and the upliftment of women in Odisha.
Sarala Devi, regarded as a pioneer of women’s empowerment in the state, was the first woman legislator of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. She worked extensively for women’s education and social awakening and played an active role in the freedom movement in Odisha.
Padhy said Sarala Devi’s ideals, dedication and spirit of service continue to inspire people even today.
Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, senior officials of the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture, intellectuals, social workers and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion and paid floral tributes to Sarala Devi.
The dignitaries remembered her enduring legacy and contributions to the state, particularly in the fields of women’s education, empowerment and social reform.
