Nabarangpur: A one-year-old child was critically injured after being attacked by a stray dog at Chaunria Sahi under Kosagumuda block in Nabarangpur district on Sunday, while a woman who tried to rescue the infant was also attacked.
According to reports, the child, a member of the family of Raju Dalei, was sleeping inside the house around noon when a stray dog entered the premises and attacked it. The animal reportedly inflicted severe injuries on the child’s face, cheek and areas around the eyes.
Hearing the infant’s cries, Dalei’s sister, Rekha, rushed to its rescue and attempted to drive away the dog. However, the animal also attacked her before fleeing as neighbours gathered at the spot.
The critically injured child was initially taken to a hospital in Kodinga, where it received primary treatment. It was subsequently shifted to the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital and later referred to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, Koraput for advanced treatment, reports said.
The incident has triggered concern among local residents over the threat posed by stray dogs in the area.
