Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Sunday caught a Revenue Inspector (RI) while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 to facilitate issuance of a legal heir certificate.
The accused has been identified as Niranjan Singh, RI of Keshari Nagar Circle, Unit-VI, Bhubaneswar.
According to Vigilance, the complainant had applied online on September 9 for a legal heir certificate following the death of his mother and younger brother, submitting all required documents. Despite meeting the RI three to four times, his file was not processed. The RI allegedly delayed the enquiry report and demanded Rs 5,000 to forward it online to the competent authority.
Feeling aggrieved, the applicant approached Vigilance. A trap was laid and Singh was nabbed today while taking the bribe amount.
Following the trap, Vigilance is conducting searches at two locations linked to Singh from a disproportionate assets angle.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No. 22 dated 03.09.2026 under Section 7 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress.
