Bhubaneswar: The coastal city of Puri recorded its second-highest maximum temperature for the month of October yesterday, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The maximum temperature soared to 36.6°C in Puri on October 5. This is the second-highest October maximum temperature recorded in Puri in the 130 years of data maintained by the IMD since 1896.
As per IMD data, the all-time highest October temperature for the city remains 36.7°C, recorded on October 1, 2024. The previous second-highest mark of 36.3°C was set just two years ago on October 4, 2024, which has now been surpassed.
The IMD data underscores the unusual heat for early October in the region.
