Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested Arabinda Mohanty, Executive Engineer of R&B Sub-Division, Betnoti under R&B Division, Baripada in Mayurbhanj district, in a disproportionate assets case. Mohanty will be produced before the Court of the Special Vigilance Judge, Baripada today.
During searches of his properties, Vigilance officials found that he was in possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. These include two multi-storeyed buildings, a farmhouse spanning five acres, 23 high-value plots, approximately 300 grams of gold, cash amounting to Rs 10,57,500 (including Rs 2.5 lakh recovered from his residence at Balianta in Bhubaneswar today), bank deposits of Rs 69.69 lakh, and one four-wheeler. He failed to satisfactorily explain the sources of these assets.
During investigation, Vigilance sleuths found that Mohanty had concealed land documents of 20 plots at a contractor’s residence in Baleshwar. During yesterday’s search of the house, the records were recovered. Some documents that had been buried underground were also retrieved by digging. In addition, a locker held benami in the name of the same contractor was found to contain Rs 2.77 lakh in cash and gold belonging to Mohanty, which have been seized.
A case (Baleshwar Vigilance PS Case No. 25/2026) has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018.
Investigation into the case is continuing.
