Bhubaneswar: Private bus services in Odisha will operate as usual on Thursday despite the 12-hour bandh called by the Congress-led INDIA bloc, the Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association said on Wednesday.
Association president Priyabrata Tripathy said no decision had been taken to suspend bus operations in support of the bandh.
“Nobody has approached the bus owners or contacted the association seeking our support for the shutdown of private bus services,” Tripathy said.
He said the association’s present decision was to continue bus services normally on Thursday, adding that the position could change if any fresh decision was taken.
The INDIA bloc has called the bandh over several issues, including demand for immediate withdrawal of the MMDR Amendment Act, 2026.
The opposition alliance has also sought the resignation of Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond over alleged errors in school textbooks.
Another demand relates to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with the INDIA bloc seeking the resignation and arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the exercise.
