Bhubaneswar: The survivor in the Nayapalli rape case on Wednesday identified the main accused during a Test Identification (TI) Parade conducted at Jharpada Special Jail here, police said.
Bhubaneswar DCP Saravana Vivek M said the accused was made to stand among nine other persons during the identification exercise conducted in the presence of a magistrate. The survivor identified the accused after examining all 10 persons, he said.
A TI Parade is an important investigative procedure in serious criminal cases, particularly when establishing whether a victim or eyewitness can independently recognise an accused.
During the exercise, the accused is placed among persons of similar appearance without giving the identifying witness any prior indication about his identity. The process is audio-visually recorded, including the manner in which the witness makes the identification.
The identification is treated as a supporting component of the investigation and is considered by the court along with other evidence, including medical, forensic and digital evidence, witness statements and circumstantial evidence.
