Malkangiri: Police have seized around 1,500 kg of ganja, valued at an estimated Rs 1.5 crore, from a forested area near Sadaram village along the Andhra Pradesh border in Malkangiri district, officials said Thursday.
The seizure was made by personnel of Jodambo police station during a search operation following intelligence inputs that a large consignment of ganja had been concealed in a pit in the hilly forest area.
A team led by Jodambo police station IIC Manoranjan Sahu, along with ASIs Ananta Kumar Nayak and Simanchal Patra, conducted the operation and recovered the contraband. Four iron pressing chests allegedly used for packing ganja were also seized.
No arrest has been made so far in connection with the seizure.
Police have registered a case at Jodambo police station under Case No. 36/2026 and Section 20(b)(ii)(c) of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the illegal storage and trafficking of the contraband.
Chitrakonda SDPO Pradosh Pradhan said the crackdown on ganja smuggling was continuing under the direction of Malkangiri SP Vinod Patil. Police teams are conducting further searches to trace and apprehend those allegedly involved in the trafficking network.
