Bhubaneswar: A young mason from Gajapati district, who had migrated to Chennai to earn money for his two unmarried sisters’ weddings, died of electrocution while at work. His body has been brought back to the village, leaving the family in deep mourning and complete distress.
The deceased has been identified as Muna Karji of Bariabandha village under Mohana block.
As per reports, Muna’s father passed away two years back. His elder brother got married and settled elsewhere, leaving Muna as the sole earning member of the family. He worked as a mason with a meagre income and struggled to run the household that included his blind mother and two unmarried sisters.
Worried about arranging money for his sisters’ marriages, Muna finally left the village and went to Chennai along with his elder brother to work as a migrant labourer. He was employed as a bonded labourer in a construction company in Chennai. He came in contact with a live electric wire and suffered a severe shock while at work on Thursday night.
He was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The body reached his village on Friday morning, plunging the family into grief. With the only breadwinner of the family gone, Muna’s blind mother and two unmarried sisters have been left completely helpless.
Locals have demanded immediate government assistance for the bereaved family.
