Dhenkanal: A 44-year-old woman from Digambarpur village under Gandia block in Dhenkanal district, who donated her kidney and liver after brainstem death, was cremated with state honour on Friday morning.
Deceased Durgabati Raut, wife of Pramod Kumar Raut, was given a Guard of Honour by the police. She was declared brain dead after suffering brain stem injury and breathed her last at Utkal Hospital in Bhubaneswar. She had earlier given consent for organ donation. After her death, her kidney and liver were retrieved and preserved for transplantation.
Her mortal remains were consigned to flames at the village crematorium at around 10 am. Additional Collector Ramesh Chandra Sethi, Additional SP Suryamani Pradhan, Additional SP (DIB) Niranjan Padhi, Zilla Parishad President Archana Puhan and Gandia Block Chairperson Reena Rani Khatua among others paid floral tributes to the deceased.
Officials said her noble act of organ donation will help save lives of others through transplantation.
