Bhubaneswar: All candidates were elected uncontested in two colleges in Odisha on the first day of filing nominations for Students’ Union elections.
In Dharmashala College in Jajpur district, 17 candidates including the President won unopposed as no other candidates filed nominations. Dibya Ranjan Nayak was elected as President while Swadin Swain became Vice President. Swayam Shree Khatua was elected General Secretary and Rajashree Samal as Assistant General Secretary.
Similarly, in Panchayat Samiti College in Jhumpura, Keonjhar district, all 13 candidates were elected uncontested.
Across the state, candidates filed nomination papers for the students’ union polls between 10 am and 1 pm today in various higher educational institutions, followed by scrutiny from 2 pm to 4 pm. The valid nomination list will be published by 5 pm.
Candidates can withdraw their nominations tomorrow between 10 am and 1 pm, and the final list of candidates will be published at 3 pm.
Direct elections will be held in 13 universities and 328 colleges, while 205 educational institutions will select their student representatives through the selection process. After the nomination process, the ‘Why I Stand For’ meeting will be held on October 14, giving candidates an opportunity to present their positions.
Voting is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, from 8 am to 2 pm. Counting will begin at 2 pm on the same day and results will be announced thereafter.
The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected student representatives is scheduled for the following day.
