Bhubaneswar: In a bizarre incident, police have arrested a youth and detained a minor boy for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl multiple times over the last few months, leaving her seven months pregnant in Sundaragada district.
The third accused, also a juvenile, is currently in Chennai and a police team will be sent to bring him back, officials said on Friday.
The crime took place between February and June but remained undisclosed. It came to light only this month when the girl’s family noticed changes in her health and a medical check-up confirmed her pregnancy.
Following a complaint filed by a family member on October 7, police registered a case under the POCSO Act and BNS. The 15-year-old survivor recorded her statement before a magistrate on Friday and has been placed at a One Stop Centre for care, support and counselling.
The 21-year-old accused has been sent to judicial custody, while the detained juvenile has been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and lodged in an observation home.
