Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, accompanied by First Lady Jayashree Kambhampati, visited Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday and appreciated its biodiversity, tourism infrastructure and potential for sustainable eco-tourism.
During the visit, the Governor explored the sanctuary and witnessed wildlife sightings. He appreciated the facilities developed for visitors and the conservation measures undertaken by the authorities to protect the sanctuary’s rich biodiversity.
Located across Sambalpur and Bargarh districts, Debrigarh is known for its diverse wildlife, forest landscapes and proximity to the Hirakud reservoir, making it a major eco-tourism destination in western Odisha.
The Governor also lauded the participation of local communities in tourism-related activities, observing that such initiatives could generate employment while contributing to wildlife conservation.
He encouraged people to explore domestic tourist destinations rather than travel abroad, emphasising the need to promote India’s natural attractions and strengthen local livelihoods through tourism.
The visit underscored the scope for sustainable tourism development in western Odisha, leveraging its wildlife, scenic forests and the Hirakud reservoir. The Governor is scheduled to stay overnight at the sanctuary.
