Bhubaneswar: A total of 6,362 candidates will contest the upcoming student union elections across 347 colleges in Odisha, according to the final list released by the Higher Education Department.
The department said 8,370 nomination papers were filed for the elections, of which 1,196 were rejected during scrutiny. As many as 7,174 candidates were initially declared eligible to contest.
Following the scrutiny process, 405 candidates withdrew their nominations. The final list subsequently put the number of candidates in the fray at 6,362.
The publication of the final list has cleared the way for candidates to contest various student union posts across the participating colleges, with election-related activities expected to gather pace on campuses.
The student union elections in colleges and universities across Odisha are scheduled to be held on October 15. The results will also be declared on the same day.
