Bhubaneswar: In a major relief for revellers and Durga Puja organisers across Odisha, Dussehra celebrations are likely to proceed without any major weather disruption as the low-pressure system expected over the Bay of Bengal has weakened.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), although Odisha is set to witness intermittent rainfall over the next few days due to the gradual retreat of the southwest monsoon, the festive period is expected to remain largely dry.
The weather office noted that the low-pressure system which was expected to form over the Bay of Bengal has now weakened considerably, reducing immediate concerns of heavy downpour during the festive days. The southwest monsoon is steadily withdrawing from Odisha, with conditions becoming favourable for its complete retreat from the remaining parts of the country within the next two days.
As per IMD, while light to moderate showers may occur at a few places, especially in coastal pockets, there is no warning of heavy rainfall that could disrupt pandal hopping, idol immersion or other Dussehra-related events.
Despite the weakening of the low-pressure system, the IMD has advised residents, especially those in coastal areas, to remain alert to sudden weather changes and keep an eye on official forecasts.
With no major system in sight, Odisha is set to celebrate a largely rain-free and pleasant Dussehra this year, the weather office added.
