Kataka: Tension prevailed at Ravenshaw University in Kataka on Wednesday following a clash between two groups of students ahead of the student union elections scheduled for Thursday.
According to reports, a brief argument between students escalated into a scuffle shortly after the ‘Why I Stand For’ meeting on the university campus.
Following an alert from the university authorities, police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The university administration has deployed police personnel on the campus to prevent any untoward incident ahead of the polls, an official said.
Student union elections are being held in universities and colleges across Odisha after a gap of nine years, drawing participation from various student organisations.
Several outfits, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Chhatra Biju Janata Dal (BCJD), have fielded candidates for the campus polls.
