Dashapalla (Nayagada): Dashapalla police in Nayagada district have seized 104 kg of ganja allegedly being transported from Kandhamal to Kataka and apprehended a 17-year-old boy who was driving the car carrying the contraband.
Acting on specific intelligence about the movement of a large consignment of ganja in a car, Dashapalla police station Inspector-in-Charge Binay Ranjan Parida intercepted the vehicle at Rangamatia toll gate and detained its driver.
The accused, a minor, hails from Karandagad village under Phiringia police station limits in Kandhamal district. The vehicle, bearing registration number OD 02 CM 3405, was found carrying ganja packed in two plastic bags.
Police seized the contraband after confirming its presence during a search of the vehicle. The seized ganja was subsequently weighed in the presence of a magistrate, with the total quantity estimated at 104 kg.
Police suspect that ganja smugglers may be engaging minors to transport large consignments in an attempt to evade legal accountability. Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the contraband and identify others involved in the alleged smuggling operation, IIC Parida said.
