Bhubaneswar: An elephant was found dead in an agricultural field at Dumerta village under Bondamunda panchayat in Bisra block of Sundaragada district on Wednesday morning, with electrocution suspected to be the cause of death.
The elephant, which had two tusks, was found entangled in solar fencing wire in the field, raising suspicions that it may have died after coming into contact with an electric current.
Following reports of the incident, a team from the Rourkela Forest Division reached the spot and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the elephant’s death.
Forest officials are examining the site to determine whether electrocution caused the animal’s death.
The exact cause of death will be established after the investigation is completed, reports said.
