Ganjam: Ganjam district police arrested 61 people during raids on around 10 alleged illegal gambling dens across the district on October 20, seizing Rs 2.19 lakh in cash, playing cards and five mobile phones, police said.
Superintendent of Police Harisha B.C. said the raids were conducted in different parts of the district as police intensified their drive against illegal gambling during the Durga Puja festivities.
During the operation, police seized Rs 2,19,480 in cash from the arrested persons. A large number of playing cards and five mobile phones were also recovered, the SP said.
Cases have been registered against all the arrested persons under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation is underway.
The SP said the police would continue their crackdown on illegal gambling and other criminal activities across the district.
